We can all agree that the last several weeks have been challenging for so many others on the planet – from Mexico to the Caribbean and beyond.
Questions came up.
How do we help everyone?
What can we do?
My initial idea was to gather flashlights, batteries and other dry goods needed for these areas, however, there were challenges with where to ship them so that they’d get to those in need. With a bit more searching I found that I have several contacts with family in Puerto Rico and that’s one way that we can continue to help by getting addresses for those in need that are connected to people we know.
Another way to help is to donate.
If you can, please consider sharing this post as it includes a number of organizations and ways we can help those in need. There are other organizations, however, I have included several that I thought would be a good start to help Puerto Rico, Mexico, USVI, BVI, the Caribbean and Bahamas.
One way to help Mexico is to continue traveling! Tourism income will help the people recover from the recent earthquakes. There are also opportunities for Volunteer Travel if that’s something you’re willing and able to do.
Ways to Help
United for Puerto Rico is an initiative by the First lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rosselló and is in collaboration with the private sector. The purpose of this initiative is to provide aid and support those affectd in Puerto Rico by hurriciane Irma and Maria.
Visit United for Puerto Rico for more details and to donate.
USVI, Mexico & Puerto Rico
There are a number of initiatives at YouCaring.com for relief in the areas affected. The USVI relief fund was started by Tim Duncan, retired NBA player, and he’s matching donations up to $1M. You’ll see that this fund is currently at $2.7m, which is more than half way to the $5m goal.

For Mexico & Puerto Rico, visit the main page at: YouCaring at www.youcaring.com/
This fund will go to the organizations that are on the ground in Mexico helping those affected by the earthquake.
The people of Dominica were hard hit, as you know, with no shelter, no food and no medications. This fund was created to bring basic needs to the people including temporary shelter, food, and blankets.
This fund will help the islands affected by Hurricanes Irma & Maria. The Caribbean Tourism Organization collecting for this initiative will disburse funds to the islands impacted.
Puerto Rico & Caribbean Hurricane Relief
This fund by GlobalGiving.org will provide relief to survivors in the form of emergency supplies like food, water, and medicine. The long-term goal is to help the people recover and rebuild.
Thank you for stopping by. My goal and my hope is that by sharing this list we can keep all those affected by these hurricanes and earthquakes front of mind and help as many as possible. Those of you seeing this are most likely fellow lovers of travel and these islands and Mexico need our help. Blessings to all of you.
